Urlacher: Cutler only ex-teammate not to contact him after retirement
Heres what he had to say: I did not hear from Jay (Cutler). Out of all the guys I played with I felt like I stood up for him a lot more than anybody else did over the past 3 or 4 years in the media, cause that guy takes a lot of grief. Jay, how could you!? Maybe Urlacher didnt know Cutler as good as he thought he did? The Bears QB doesnt really strike me as a guy who would reach out to a former teammate and thank them. But who knows? Its extremely tough to get a read on Cutler. Sure, he comes across as a guy who just doesnt give a crap about much, but only his true friends and family know the real person.
Urlacher: ‘So Mad’ At How Bears Handled My Exit
Speaking with Yahoo! reporter Graham Bensinger , Urlacher explained why he was so mad about the way the Bears franchise handled his exit. Urlacher said he felt the Bears never actually wanted him back and only made him an offer out of pity. I just wish they wouldve said, Hey, we have this amount of money for you. Its all we can pay you. We want you back. We want to bring a young guy in behind you maybe hell start, but we want you on our team. If youre going to retire, we want you to retire here. This will be your last year, but its all we can pay you. I think that would have been a more respectable way to handle it. I probably actually wouldve stayed.

(Scott Halleran / Getty Images / August 30, 2013) By Chuck Schilken September 3, 2013, 9:07 a.m. Johnny Manziel is a punk. That’s what most of us are thinking, right? If only someone had the guts to come right out and say it. Brian Urlacher could have been that person. The former Chicago Bears linebacker and future Hall of Famer certainly has the football background — and the bulging muscles — to back up such a statement. Plus, he has a forum in his new gig as a “Fox Football Daily” analyst.
Where should Brian Urlacher play next? Eight possibilities
Players are so much faster and quicker. We even saw a little bit of that same issue with Urlacher and Ray Lewis in recent years. It’s a young man’s position now. It’s tougher to match up with these tight ends and backs when you get older. The legs start to go. In your head and heart you think you can still get there, but the body says ‘Screw it.’ ” Indeed, there were times in recent seasons when Lewis and Urlacher were painfully exposed in pass coverage, with too much open space on the field to account for, and not enough speed to chase down the young and athletic skill-position weapons that enter the league every year.
I thought he was our guy. We won games with him. He did the things, as a defensive player, you needed. He didnt turn the ball over. He gave us a chance to play defense. So, I was mad when they traded him in the first place. I didnt understand it.
